70 years of Indian Cinema
As India marks 7 decades of its independence, this year at Shared History we will celebrate 70 glorious years of Indian Cinema at a specially curated film festival.
The history of Indian Cinema goes back to the nineteenth century. In 1896, the very first films shot by the Lumiere Brothers were shown in Mumbai (then Bombay). Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke released the first ever full-length feature film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913. The silent film was a commercial success and ever since films from India have enchanted generations across Africa.
